Breast Biopsy
Breast biopsy is usually performed when a suspicious lesion is detected in the breast from previous mammography and ultrasound examinations.
The breast biopsy is a relatively safe and quick procedure which is performed on the day with minimal preparations necessary.
Our radiologists use plenty of local anaesthetics to ensure that the whole procedure is as pain free as possible. Specific training allows our radiologists to deploy the biopsy needle under direct ultrasound guidance precisely into the area of interest. The complications of this procedure are minimal in expert hands.
The procedure usually takes 15-20 minutes to perform. You will be able to resume normal activities after the procedure, although it is recommended that you keep the needle site dry for the following 24 hours. Heavy manual labour is best avoided for 24 hours. A small area of bruise may appear at the site the following day although it is generally not a major concern.
The results are usually available in 3-5 days’ time and are directly dispatched to your referring doctor.
You will be able to ask questions to the performing specialist on the day of your procedure.
